1982 saw Mattel moving production more and more to its Malaysia facility. It also opened facilities in France and Mexico, for their respective markets, but this would only last for roughly 4 years. The year would mark the continuation of the Workhorse Series, more Hot Ones with gold hubs, and the introduction of a short-lived series based on a movie: Megaforce. These vehicles were issued on a dedicated blistercard, but had their production run stopped early, due to the movie being a dud in theaters. They're not completely rare, but they can be difficult to find. Some cars were slipped into the line with GoodYear Real Rider tires, before the line would actually become official in 1983. As for promotions, another Toys 'R Us promo was issued; this time, it was the Bronco 4-Wheeler in white, with Geoffrey on the sides. Also, for the first time, McDonald's used Hot Wheels as promotional toys in 1982. In all, 24 different models were available that year at the fast food chain. Personally, I think they could've given away Redlines, and I STILL wouldn't have eaten there! ;) Quoted values are for LOOSE, NM examples. Cars less than NM will obviously command a lesser value than listed, depending on overall condition. Unless otherwise stated, the country of origin for all listed models is Hong Kong. Different countries will be listed second, and bolded. Note that the NCHWA utilizes a pricing method called "Star Value©." Instead of specific dollar values, each car will be assigned a Star Value© to indicate rarity and potential price range. There are simply too many variables to place a "set" value on any model, so a range will be used instead to indicate where that particular model may fall on the secondary price scale. A +/- indicates where on that scale the value is approximated, while a number by itself would indicate the value falls in the middle of the Star Value. This is also an easy quick-glance method to determine rarity; the higher the number, the rarer the car. The value chart will be placed at the bottom of each page. |
